Here is a happier story, from CTV Vancouver news yesterday:

A bald eagle has been released back into the wild three months after he flew into a Vancouver power line.

Air Date: March 12, 2016

This eagle was injured three months ago after flying into a power line. He was badly burned and given little chance of survival. The eagle was taken to OWL and slowly nursed back to health. His release at this time means that he will be able to (hopefully) rejoin his mate!

That was a sweet release and great outcome for the eagle and his mate. It was really nice to see our Eaglesonly explaining and doing the release. OWL does amazing work with raptors. Altogether uplifting.

That was a lovely video, Rajame. I've seen storks in Portugal and also Poland. We have a great story in the UK at the moment:-

"In a spring marked by bad news, events unfolding in the crown of an old oak tree could offer a dose of optimism. Three pairs of white storks settled down to breed on the Knepp Estate in West Sussex, southern England, in March 2020. On May 15, it was announced that the first chicks had hatched – the first to be born in Britain since a pair nested on the roof of St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh in 1416."

A huge conservation effort.

Laurad, thanks for posting about the storks in Britain! I did not even realize they had ever nested there, much less that they are back after 600 years! That really is a wonderful story, I hope they continue to come back strong. Kudos to the conservation group that did the hard work.

Thank you Nancy and Rajame. I'm going to keep an eye on their progress and wouldn't it be amazing to actually see them - maybe one day. As I said, I have seen them in Poland and they were nesting on the top of a pole - extraordinary.

That is a lovely story indeed, Raj, thanks for posting it here. I was a bit surprised that the people who let the pony roam on his own for so many years showed up the minute someone wanted to take care of him. More impressive is the way he shook off all those years of solitude to come into his own. Sweet story.
