Yay booni, a pretty girl with a dark feather spot!  ♥

Two returning eagles...

Female-sounding one in the BST, barely visible from the cam; she would have been on the opposite side from that view:

i took way too many fotos today, so this will take a bit of time to catch up.
i will start with just this one for now.
This Eagle was making the calls while i was there.
Another Eagle was in Fosters* Fir.
Fotos to come.

Okay, so this post should go BEFORE my first post above.
A friend was at Hidden Beach & caught fotos of this Eagle coming in slowly from above.
Here is what she observed - 3:20 in the afternoon, flew slowly over, very high, I had time to get 5 shots, then banked and took off to the southeast. Never returned while I was there...'til 5ish.
So, this was when we had those snarking northwest winds.
wren posted fotos of the waves that were crashing at Grassy Point, & the sea Birds that seemed to be enjoying the conditions.
In my fotos of this same Eagle in The Babysitting Tree, she is really clinging to her perch branch & the Tree is rocking from side to side & i am having trouble keeping her in the camera frame because of the movement.
In stevi*s foto, you can see the breaks in the zipping of the primary & secondary wing feathers on her right side.
We are seeing these same breaks in the wing primaries of the Eagle perched on the wide angle camera.
i thought it was cool that stevi caught her flying in from Hidden Beach!
Then i lucked out & caught her in The Babysitting Tree not long after!

i found THIS Eagle in Fosters* Fir.

october 3 2018 13:06 - Eagle in Fosters* Fir

They always look like they*re seeing something & are upset & about to take off, but then they don*t.
Not at all sure what they are seeing.

& here again.
This time seeing something near the water.

Preening.

You can hear the Eagle on the wide angle camera calling during this video of the Great Blue Heron.

:ecsmile The observations of local residents are both helpful and reassuring to me. I think returning eagles are a bit early this year? I love the ID referrences - dark tail feather, white mark on dad, etc. And of course, a picture is worth a thousand words   Thank you Wren and Booni, friends and neighbours, for sharing your magical island with all of us.
