october 31 2010 11:46am Dad leaves the Nest - 158-0114
Hope it's OK booni - but I was so interested in looking at Mom's wing that I cropped and screencapped it. Thanks for the feather lesson, AJL and Boonibarb!
Be sure to click fotos, then click them again, to see Mum & Dad up close.
i don't know what could be causing these black areas
<<<<snip
P.S. I see puzzles dancing around soon... :eclol
I bet you dream puzzles Tig. :biggrin3
What fun to watch Mom cachunking! She's earned that halo over many years and soon will receive a medal when she is invested in "The Order of Exemplary and Devoted Eagles," for her lifetime service including (but not limited to) her contributions in teaching "Eagle Traditions and Ways" and many other Outstanding Activities. :heartYes Indeed!
In this foto you can see the dark feathers still on the head of the Eagle.
So this Eagle is not an adult yet.
Perhaps an Eagle in their third year, turning four in april?
Maybe Thunder or Lightning, hatched in 2007?
These photos are from Grassy Point... I took them this afternoon around 1 pm. Tide is going out, there are still some remaining balls of herring, every bird is on the wing and eating. Initially I counted 7 eagles, of which 2 were immatures. Mom and Dad were likely of this number.
What IS it about Eagles & me & poopshots???? :puzzled2 :mhihi

i call this their *vacant look*.
i don*t think i*ve ever seen Mum have this look, only Dad.
(But don*t tell Nancy!)
Usually they are both very busy looking around, not staring into space like this.
LOL, I was thinking the same thing...that is probably what most parents look like when they get a break :P
:toetap that is what raising two eaglets will do to a Mother.
Wonderful pictures and videos, booni! Each and every one is better than the last :eclove

August 3, 12:29
Look at David on his branch. This was my only warning that Alexandra was flying off the nest...
Faerie, yes, you are right: the eaglets can see the babysitting tree from the runway. I think that we would see it too, were it not for the stump. Mom and Dad usually perch higher than nest level, so the eaglets would be looking up and to our right to see their parents.
The adult circled over the Tree then headed back towards the Nest.
The Eaglet called as they took off from the Tree & flew after the adult.
...
The time was around 1:40pm.
My notes for yesterday at 1:38 PM say: Flyovers. Screeping eaglet and ?parent.
I don't think that segment of video was posted, but I have it recorded.
Alexandra landed on the nest at 1:51.
An eaglet in Mishi's Tree -she will be excited to hear that!
Circle of Life, welcome to the forum, glad to have you here. The eagles leave sometime in August usually, but their leaving schedule is flexible. Hope they are still there for you. :biggrin6
Grassy Point is another place to see Mum and Dad Hornby and eaglets. It is part of their territory. The nest is on private property. And yes there is a road nearby. Kind of a peak-a-boo view from there. Or that's how it seemed for me.. :ecsmile A good scope or telegraphic lense would be helpful.
Try to figure out what is what in this one! :mhihi
i like the fan of his tail & his petticoat feathers blowing in the wind.
