Whoa!  Youngsters in the Peters' Tree?!   Were they family... to even be allowed in Mom and Dad's territory?!   :ecsmile

Tiger, when there are that many eagles around, the notion of territory changes somewhat. We see that at herring time also. Mom and Dad still will not allow anyone to land on the nest, and my guess is that the babysitting tree would be off limits also; but it would be an enormous expenditure of energy to keep everyone out of the neighbourhood.

At one point this afternoon, there were 3 young eagles on the Wiig's favourite perch tree also, and nobody was chasing them off.

A seal carcass is more food than Mom and Dad can consume themselves anyway... and when it is all gone, the visitors will leave too.

Next this sub adult flew in!
The lovely yellow beak is coming in, though the tip is still quite dark.
The tail feathers are whiter, but still lots of brown in there.

Next i went closer to where the Seal was & spotted this youngster in the Peters*s Tree!
See the dark eye & the mostly dark beak.
Do i see a little light colouring on the cap of the head?
So perhaps a one year old, turning two in the spring?

Definitely not an Eagle in their first year, darnit.
See the dark neck feathers that end suddenly after the neck, & all the white in the tail feathers.
Is that a full crop?

Here we see their yellow feet & more of their white tail feathers.
Also the white *underarm* area that i have heard AJL refer to.

i was surprised to see how little of the Seal was left!
Guess the word got out that there was food on the beach.
Not much other than ribs, but still enough for someone to pick at.
i saw two immatures there eating just as i arrived.

i spotted what i thought was Mum & Dad carrying a stick to the Nest!
See the little stick sticking up from their back?
But look!
On their right leg!
A silver leg band!!!  :eceek
If you look, you can see another band on their left leg as well, green?
&, hey!
That*s NOT a stick!  :eceek

Look at what the stick is connected to!  :eceek
Some kind of tracking unit!
You can see the silver leg band again here.

You can see the tracking unit on the back here.
It seems quite large.
