Paint recorded this video which shows the lovely vocalizations that occur between David & Alexandra when she returns from her trip to the Babysitting Tree & lands on the stump.
i think David is very happy to see her!  :heart

Mum flies in with a big stick & the Eaglets greet her!
At 53 seconds in, Mum makes a call, herself.
At 1:30, there is are two interesting churbles & an oink.
At 2:02 there are churble/chirps.
The vocalizations seem to stop when Mum leaves.
Thanks Sparky!

At 30 seconds into this video, Mum flies in with a fir branch.
David greets her with sweet happy churbles & whistles.
Thanks Cali!

David is on the close up cam box, Mum is on the Nest, Alexandra is out on the Runway Branch squee-oinking at Mum.
She does a bit of the temper tantrum vocalizations.
At 1:48 Alexandra flies into the Nest next to Mum & really gives her the what-for!
At 2:40 into the video, she makes a very interesting set of sounds, including something that sounds like a small horn!
The she throws in a few churbles & a coupla chirpy chirps.
More sweet sounds at 3:56.
Thanks Cali.

Mum lands from the Babysitting Tree.
David is on the close up cam box & greets her loudly!
At one point he switches to sweet churbles.
Thanks Sparky!

GREAT thread Booni!!!

One thing I've really fallen in love with this year is the chittering / churbling sounds.  In a nest with sibs who get along, you hear a lot of it, it's their conversational sound.  You also hear it when they're at the stage where they're alone for much of the day, but Mom comes back at night, and the 'lets tell her about their day.  Or when they've finished eating and are happy campers.
They also seem to use it sometimes for scolding, as in "Dad, what do you mean you only brought a BRANCH??!" or "Hey, quit hopping on me, go do your flap/hopping over there!"

Mishka, it seems our fabulous videographers caught some of this very type of vocalizations today!  :hearts2

In this video, Mum is on the Nest, David is on the Balcony.
At about 25 seconds in, David spots Dad flying in & starts screeping to him!
Dad lands on Mum with a stick, & gets a beaking for his trouble.  :heart
Mum manages to cachunk & beak Dad at the same time!
You GO Mum!
David screeps non-stop while Dad places the stick.
1:33 in, Mum hops to the cam box, David ups the screeping.
2:36 into the video, Mum is having a hard time watching Dad arrange sticks on the Nest.
But she stays on the cam box.
With Mum on the cam box while Dad is working down in the Nest, you really get an appreciation for how high up the cam box actually IS from the Nest.
At 3:33 into the video, David shoves his way up beside Mum onto the cam box.
David seems to be screeping at Dad from the cam box.
Mum hops down to the Balcony & David hops down into the Nest to join Dad at the same time.
Immediately David*s vocalizations change to happy churbles! :eclove
Wow!
He sounds like some different kind of bird here!
How lovely!
He continues to whistle & churble & screep at Dad from the back side of the Nest.
What*re you doin* with those sticks Dad??
Did I tell you what I did today?

At 17:45 into the video, you can see David watch Alexandra land on the stump & then he begins to talk to HER!
She screeps loudly in reply & it gets louder when she lands in front of the microphone.

Wooo hooooo!
WHAT a video!
Thanks Paint!

At 20 seconds into this video, David spots Mum flying in with a fish & begins his screeping!
Once he gets his fish, he oinks & screeps his appreciation to her.
Then he churbles!
He*s too busy churbling at her to eat his fish.
Next he plunks himself down in the Nest & prevents her from nestorating.
At 4:50 in, Mum preens David.
He*s not thrilled with that.
At 5:28 into the video, Mum scootches down beside David in the Nest.
Or tries to.  :biggrin6
David*s just tickled about the whole thing.

Thanks Sparky!

David is really happy to have Mum spending time with him in the Nest.
Listen to him churble at 40 seconds into the video.
Over the sounds of the construction, you can hear him churbling his pleasure throughout this video.

Thanks Sparky!

I was blessed to be watching/listening when all that went down yesterday, so I quickly begged for some videos, and paint and sparkie came thru big time!!  These are great examples of what I meant about it being a conversational tone - even tho in David's case, the conversation is usually one-sided.  What a chatterbox!

The best examples of this that I've seen with with the Decorah eagles earlier this year.  This was a rare nest of triplets who all got along.  Of course, it helps that their nest is right on top of a fishery, so food is never an issue!!
Anyway, there was a period of a couple weeks when the three of them seemed to spend time every morning plunked down right in front of the cam, having these long conversations.  It was incredible!  You could see their beaks & tongues moving as they chittered, even see each one looking at whoever was speaking.
I didn't think at the time to ask anyone to tape it, and haven't been able to find any videos out there that show it.  But that's when I fell in love with the sound!

Thank you, Mishka, for sharing about the Decorah youngsters' conversations!  How delightful.  This is the first time that we have been able to see two eaglets grow up together on the Hornby cam.  It is so special to see (and hear!) their interactions.  I have heard about human twins who have their own language/way of communicating.  Seeing the eagle siblings interact made me think of that.

If only we could understand "eaglet".  I sure would like to know what they are saying!  (Although I do have some ideas! :eclol)

This is a sweet video done by Cali of Alexandra falling asleep in front of the close up camera.
The whole video is fantastic to watch, but at 2:43 in, she makes a really cool vocalization!
Thanks for the heads up Cali!

This video begins with no one visible in the Nest.
We very soon hear David screeping from the Balconcy when he spies Mum flying in with a fish!
He hops up to the close up cam box screeping at her arrival with food.
He goes mantling to the Elevator, screeping & oinking with his fish.
Not a few seconds later, Alexandra comes roaring in from the beach, screeping the whole way in.  :eclol
They both compete for who can split our ears first!

Thanks Sparky!

You can hear Crows in the background of this video.
At 2:30 into the video, Alexandra comes roaring into the Nest chased by a Crow!
David screeps loudly at her arrival.
Did he think she brought food for him?
He goes into submission right away.

Thanks Sparky!
