Today i got a call from my 91 year old friend who lives across the road & down a few lots from Nest#25.
She has been reporting Eagles perched in the trees in her yard, & Eagles flying over.
She says this morning there was a ruckus in their chicken yard, where they have six egg laying hens.
Well, this morning an Eagle got one of the chickens & then a Hawk joined in!
They found the chicken tucked into the bush, dead.
So they buried it.
My friend has given up raising ducks, which she loves, because Eagles have gotten every one of them.

Thanks for updating us on this nest, Booni.  It's so nice to know about the other eagles on Hornby Island.

i went by this Nest today so i decided to stop & check it out.
i saw no Eagle nor heard an Eaglet, but when i passed under the tree i spied many many small poopshots!!
When i looked up from them, there was the rim of the Nest looking down at me!
There was a nice big circle of tiny poopshots all the way around the base of the tree.
i suspect we have at least one Eaglet in this Nest!

The more eaglets on Hornby, the better!     Thank you for letting us know, Booni.   :eclove

i visited this Nest on tuesday afternoon.
i could hear an Eaglet calling!
i focused my camera on the Nest, but could see nobody home.
i continued to hear Eaglet calls.
i finally realized that the calls were coming from BEYOND the Nest!
So!
A fledged Eaglet!
No wonder i could see nothing in the Nest.
At times i was SURE i heard a second Eaglet calling.
But then i would doubt myself.
An adult flew way out over the water of Tribune Bay, almost to the other side.
i heard screeping!
i looked towards the sound & there was an Eaglet flying right towards me!
They landed on the tree right above my head!
Lucky lucky me!
i find it very interesting that the fledged Eaglet last year perched in this same tree where i was able to photograph & then video him flying away.
i think they even used the same perch branch.
Interesting continuity from year to year, hey?
i was able to photograph & video this youngster for at least half an hour.
i had my camera on video when he flew away down the bank & landed in a tree.
As he landed, i could again hear a second Eaglet!
Hopefully you will hear them on the video when i post it.
wooohoooo!

i think when i took this foto, i didn*t see the Eaglet looking back at me from amongst the Nest sticks!
Look closely.
Can you see the twentyfivelet?
Click on the foto & click it again & you will be able to see him looking at you.

Nice Booni!!  I really had to search to see that eaglet!  The vocalizations on that nest are wonderful!!

Sigh... Reminds me of summer... Searching out the eaglets in each nest... It's like a treasure hunt. It is a treasure hunt!

Okay, as described in my story from way back when above, i was trying to spot an Eaglet on the Nest with no success.
But then one flew right towards me & landed in the same perch Tree that i photographed the Eaglet in last year!
i had to fudge this foto a bit, as it is underexposed.
You can see the nictitating membrane is partway across the eye.

Here*s the Eaglet, properly exposed this time.
