Thank you to Boonibarb for the introduction to this topic:

Nest #31 used to be at Olsen Farm in 2009.
They had two lovely eaglets there.
But in 2010, i saw no signs of it there.
But a nest was reported to Doug, at the Heron Rocks campsite, which is right next door.
i believe the Olsen Farm adults have built a new nest right in the middle of the busy Heron Rocks campsite.
It is busy there this time of year.
Lots of people camp there.
If i were to camp on Hornby, i would camp here.
It has a beautiful location, right on the water.
It has excellent fishing opportunities, & beautiful sunsets.

Here is Doug*s map, which shows you the approximate location of the nest.
You can see Heron Rocks marked on the map.
Nest #31 is now closer to nest #32.

Here's a nice view of the Heron Rocks territory from the middle of Lambert Channel on December 26. There is a false horizon, so it looks as if Toby Islet and Norris Rocks are levitating...

The islets provide an even larger area of foreshore for fishing... this is really a prime location.

Beautiful photo, Wren.  The false horizon is interesting.  I wonder what causes it?

Tiger, this is the same phenomenon that makes it look like the road is flooded near the horizon. A mirage. The far ocean reflects the sky.

Thank you, Wren.  That makes sense.  It sure does look as if the small islands are floating!   smile

i was on my way to the Heron Rocks Annual Plant Sale, my favourite day of the year, but i got distracted by Eagles nearby!

This pair was air-drying!
Look how fluffed up her belly/chest feathers are!

She*s got her wings hanging out to dry.

Look how far she can fluff out those feathers!
