I wrote some new haikus for Phoenix tonight.  They are posted here: http://www.ournaturezone.com/index.php?topic=147.msg20007#msg20007

I am so glad we can share our memories of Phoenix.  She was, and will continue to be, well loved.  :eclove

Here is a poem for Phoenix.  It came to me this morning.  And my thanks to mr. ltb for a small suggestion that was just right.

Phoenix, Did You Know?

Phoenix, I wonder,
Did you know
How many people loved you,
How many watched you grow?

Could you feel our wonder as we saw
Your fuzzy head appear
And feel how we delighted as we watched you
Bobbling front to rear?

Could you hear us laugh on those days
When your crop was like a great big ball
When we chuckled while we wondered
If you leaned forward, would you fall?

Phoenix, did you know
How many people cared for you
How we delighted in your antics
And the shows you gave us, too?

Could you feel the viewers watching
As the midshipman seemed like you it would attack
And feel us smile as your mom stepped on it
So she could hold it back?

Could you sense us as we held our breath
As you discovered the nest edge
And hear the collective sigh heard round the world
When you did not tumble off the ledge?

Phoenix, did you know
The feelings we all shared
For a dear, sweet eaglet
For whom so much we cared?

Could you hear the laughter you gave to us
Who were scattered far and wide
Thinking your big yellow feet so precious
While your parents felt such pride?

Could you feel our anticipation as to
Hop, flap, and wingersize you began
And know how proud you made us
When you fleaped up to the cam?

Phoenix, did you know
How we wished for your first flight
And how we would listen for your sweet sounds
Long into the night?

Could you feel our hearts all breaking
As you lost your fight to live
Could you feel the love we sent your way
And know it was all we had to give?

Could you know that you would live again
In the hearts and minds of us all
And as your namesake, Phoenix, live forever
Always alive in our shared recall?

Phoenix, did you know
That you will be remembered by all of those who cared
Your legacy, a better world, where,
Because of you, more birds will fill the air?

Phoenix, did you know?
Yes, I'm sure you do.

Thank you Luvthebirds.  That was a beautiful poem and said everything that I think everyone has been feeling.  I know I cryed when I read it remembering sweet Phoenix.  I am sure that she felt the love that so many people were sending her way, especially at the end.  She must have known that she was not alone.

Thank you again.   :nod2

Luv, that's a beautiful poem.  You say what is in your heart (and ours) so well.  Thank you.  I thought I was done crying, but it brought tears to my eyes.   :heart
