On Sunday morning August 4th I was contacted by boonibarb to say that she had been called out to rescue an eaglet, see her post here:

http://www.ournaturezone.com/index.php?topic=1235.msg136067#msg136067

The guy who kindly transported the eaglet off Hornby Island called me when he was in the ferry line up from Denman to Buckley Bay, at which time I left home and by the time I got to Buckley Bay the ferry was nearing the dock.  We met up in the parking lot of the gas station and moved the carrier into my vehicle and I headed off immediately to MARS where Maj and a few interns were waiting on my arrival.

The eaglet was removed from the carrier, hooded and wrapped in a towel, then placed in a styrofoam box and weighed, s/he weighed in at 4.5kg, after that it was "de-bugging" time (I was standing behind a closed glass door while all this was going on).   Unfortunately it had some feathers that were breaking off and Maj explained that this was probably due to dehydration and stress.  S/he was then given a feeding of what looked like a clear liquid (I didn't actually see this as I was in another area talking to Maj).  Once things has settled we went back into the care area, where by now the eaglet was in a closed room so it could rest up before being examined further.

Here are a couple of photo's I took before leaving.

My thanks to all who helped in the report and rescue of this little one and MARS for their concern and great care.

Many thanks, Dawn, for transporting the eaglet and your detailed report. S/he has the best chance possible now - hopefully will just need feeding up to become a Whale of an eagle.

Did I miss any news of the heron that booni rescued earlier this season? The rescue is vivid in my mind, but not the follow-up.

thanks, booni - somehow I felt the heron had not survived, but had forgotten (obviously) what had happened. Kudos to you for that rescue, and to MARS for taking care of him.
