Vote away, Americans! I can't find a rule online that says that non-Canadians can't vote...

Oscar's Release

MARS received six Snowy Owls during November 2012 and only one survived. He was named Oscar, after the Sesame Street character with the scowl and the big mouth. Oscar was part of a huge irruption of young Snowy Owls that came down from the Arctic in search of food after an over-abundant breeding season. He, like the others we cared for, was severely emaciated from the long migration and it took very special emaciation protocols and round the clock tube feeding to help him survive. He was released on February 8th, 2013, to eventually fly back to the Arctic.

Beautiful video of Oscar and of his release. Since his release is somewhat close to MARS, perhaps you can hear how he is doing for a short time. Sure hope he does fantastic!

Excellent, Valleybirds!  Oscar is a true success story, thanks to the protocols you used and the diligence of his caregivers.  You should all be proud.

I took these screencaps from your video.

Dear Valleybirds, thank you for sharing Oscar's release video.  ♥  He looks wonderful, thanks to your excellent care and dedication.

(Have I told you lately how much I like all the posts you make here and everything you do on MARS' facebook?  Great work! )

The voting contest is heating up and I'm determined, now! Americans can definitely vote in this one, so spread the word - we're in 3rd at the moment, which would get us $5,000! http://www.sharethebounty.ca/charities.php Just click on 'M' and then find Mountainaire Avian Rescue. Please vote every day until March 29th!

BTW, today's "Vote" pic of the owl feeding was AWESOME!  It both told folks a) the good work you do and b) was just darned cute.

Shared it on my fb and got quite a few to share it on theirs!  GREAT JOB!

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whKtl8ioDoA" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whKtl8ioDoA</a>

On March 4th we released three different patients - two were caught on video. The first one shows a sub adult Bald Eagle that was in care for less than a week. She was hit by a car and landed in a water filled ditch. However, she quickly recovered and must have been just stunned. The other release was a little Saw-Whet owl that hit a window and suffered some head trauma, resulting in one droopy eye and some groggy behaviour. After a month of recovery, he was raring to go - even slowed down 25% he's just a blur!

I lost the eagle in the sun and missed the end of her flight when she perched in one of the trees about half way up.

The other patient was an immature gull that had been hit by a car and had some head trauma.
