i was caught on the phone with someone who was doing a whole bunch of talking, but it was interesting at least.
While i was doing that, cali called.
i figured she was calling to tell me about an Em sighting.
When i heard her message i couldn*t believe it.
She said - get down there, booni, they are cutting down the Nest Tree!
Well now that seemed hard to believe.
It couldn*t be possible.
i went hauling down there on my bike & was shocked to see a crew of arborists in the driveway of The Babysitting Tree!
& when i looked at the trunk of the Nest Tree, there was a fella way up there, & all the branches had been cut off all the way up to where he was!
Our Fire Chief had been called by cali.
He talked to them & they said they had a permit to do this.
Unbelievable!
i didn*t know what to do!
They were saying they checked the Nest & it was a shambles & the Eagles were gone!
i said - well that Nest had two healthy Eaglets in it only two months ago!
& OF COURSE the Eagles were gone!
They always go away this time of year to the Salmon spawning Rivers somewhere!
& that the female had been back already this year!
The guy just shrugged his shoulders.
The fella had stopped cutting & was watching us from the Nest Tree.
i didn*t know what to do, so i went home & got my camera.
cali, i think?, called to say that those guys needed to have the permit with them & to check that they did.
i went back there & wren had arrived & they had sent her a copy of one page of the permit.
They had a permit!
i didn*t know what to do!
So i did what i do.
Film things.
i found a spot where i could see him through leaves & branches & filmed what he was doing as best i could.
He had cut a huge chunk out of the cam side of The Nest Tree.
He had also taken all the big heavy green branches off from the far side, the branches that the Eaglets had spent so much time in!
This was unbelievable!
How could they have gotten a permit to cut down an active Eagle Nest Tree!
One day i*ll work on the rest of the footage i got that day, but for now, i am posting the final moments of The Nest Tree from the ground, & i can tell ya, i am crying.

Okay, i will get back to that another day.
Wanted to post about yesterday!
i can hear Em calling, from my home & yard & pillow, even in the dark.
Yesterday, her call sounded close, & like her gulling/i want call!
So i figured she was in mishi*s Tree.
It was a dark gloomy day, clouded over.
i scanned the tops of mishi*s Tree as i approached & saw no Eagles there.
i had missed them!
But then i looked down into the lower sections of the Tree & there they both were!
i have NEVER seen them down this low.
&, hey, look how this looks like a perfect spot to put a Nest!

october 16 2020 14:33 - Mr. Em & Em in mishi*s Tree

It was a dark day for taking fotos, never mind they were in a dark spot.
i did my best.
i think this is the left trunk of mishi*s Tree.
mishi*s Tree splits into two trunks, way low down.
The right trunk is to the right here.

i didn*t catch it with my camera, but Em was opening & closing her beak & there was no sound.

Mr. was picking at the branches back there!
i could see them bouncing around as he did so.

Em just stood there, like The Queen.

october 16 2020 14:34 - Mr. Em & Em in mishi*s Tree

Mr. went in deep there, & was picking at the branches, making them bounce.
He never actually had anything in his beak, nor did he place anything in the crook.
i figured i*d leave them to it.
Perhaps they are doing these same things in all sorts of Trees right now, deciding.

Ok, I am bawling. The nest tree coming down and Em and Mr. Em in the Mishi tree.

Dear Booni, Thank you to you and Wren for being our eyes and holding our hearts on Hornby.

I hope that Em and Mr. Em find their tree and being this Season in a New nest.

Okay, it*s been nice weather, but i*ve been too busy to get down there & watch what they are doing in Constables* Fir!
Finally, last sunday, it was sunny & warm, & i had some time!
i had all these great peek holes into the Nest Tree.
Now i have to start from scratch & find all new spots.
mishi suggested a spot, so i went there first, but all i can see is branches at this point, not the Eagles.
So, i went further away, back to the road.
Here are some blurry action fotos of Mr. Em bringing in sticks!

november 1 2020 10:21 - Mr. Em delivers branches to the new Nest

You can*t see him in there, but look at all those stick ends you see to the right.

You can just see him in there, moving sticks around.
At the very beginning, you hear Em call, from The Babysitting Tree.

In this video, you hear Black-eyed Juncos chit chitting, Spotted Towhees screeing & lovely Red-breasted Nuthatches meep meep meeping, then Mr. flies off the back of the Nest.

Mr. Em flies in with a stick, then disappears down into the Nest.
You can hear his wings whack when he lands.
We hear a Raven call & fly over.
Also, the meep meep of the Red-breasted Nuthatches.
You can see him moving around in there through the branches, & he is moving very vigorously!
Some guy rides by on his bike & says - good morning barb!
i have no idea who he is.
He went by me a few times on this day.
We hear a Raven calling again, their knocking call, & then watch for the end of the stick popping up that Mr. Em is moving around!
Then he pops up into view & we get to watch him panting & looking around & planning what he is going to do next.
You can see him reacting to seeing me, & to the sounds of other people on the ground.
i sure couldn*t get this close to them in their old Nest Tree!
We are so close you get a fabulous view of his distinctive left lip curl!
i have a better tripod that will be more steady than this.
Just have to figure out how to transport it on my bike!
This tripod won*t quite stay where i want it to.
So you are seeing me holding the camera in place, & i am jiggling it.
We hear the chit chit chit of Dark-eyed Juncos.
Then Mr. Em flies off again!

This is a clickety-click-click of Mr. Em bringing in a stick.
Seven shots before my camera stops taking more.

Pretty cool to see his approach like this!
The only thing missing is the sound of the THWACK when he lands!

Just as this video begins, we hear Em call from The Babysitting Tree.
i think she calls to him, when he is bringing in a branch.
Perhaps to give instructions.  :mhihi
Watch Mr. Em work away on placing that stick just right.

Great Booni,  love that you got some good documentation of the stick arrival.   Thanks for all your time (and the time to get that uploaded)

booni, this is FABULOUS!  Your photographing spot is wonderful!  The time it takes to find "just the right spot" then stand and get the video... wow!  I so appreciate the fact that you took 9 hours just to load this so that we could enjoy it!
I loved how he was deep behind the branches, then like a 'jack-in-the-box' there he was!  His curled lip is so sweet...  what a guy he is.  It sure does seem that Em and her Mr are making a great pair.

One heart, One mind, One new nest.  We will go on!   Miigwetch!
