Would you consider building a nest tree for the pair?  The David Hancock Wildlife Foundation works to restore or build eagle nesting trees.  David Hancock has a history with Doug Carrick, who was the first to broadcast the nesting pair in this territory.  Wouldn’t it be exciting to provide a suitable nest tree or nest structure for these eagles?  This is the website https://hancockwildlife.org/ , look at the feature on Nest Mitigation.

I am confident David Hancock would be interested in talking with you.

Cheers,
Carole

Hi Carole,
Thanks for the suggestion, here and on Facebook, but we (HEGPS) believe in the ability of the eagles themselves to choose a suitable place for a new nest; there are plenty of trees in their territory.

And looking to the future, we are supporting the Hornby Island Conservancy in their project to plant more trees:  https://www.conservancyhornbyisland.org/trees4tomorrow

Hi Nancy,

Oh I’m so glad there are plenty of good trees for the eagles to nest in!!

I look forward to hearing updates, and wish the pair a successful season. 🦅 💕

Nancy, thank you for the link to the conservancy;  this is a wonderful way to honour the old nest tree.

Now that Mr. Em is back and they're both busy in the territory, it will be interesting to see which tree they choose!

This is shocking - poor tree and poor eagles and other birds that made their homes there.   :eccry

No clarity at all why the property owners did this. That tree held so many memories of past Eagles and their offspring.  I hope Em and Mr Em pick a nearby tree for a nest and that we can still watch them.  :heart
