Nest Dunlop Point - 2020 season
« on: June 09, 2020, 09:17:49 AM »
The Dunlop Nest is in a FABULOUS location.
On a point with a view to forever, a huge amount of shore for food, & lots of lovely Arbutus Trees.

Last year*s posts, & links to previous years can be found here.

i made it my bike ride destination to check out some of the Eagle Nests on this day.
i started with the Dunlops.
It was warm & sunny & there are shelves of rocky shore that allow you to walk way out at low tide.
i didn*t need to get too far out before i could look back at the Nest unobstructed by Nest Tree branches.
Wasn*t sure what i was seeing til i took a look at one of the fotos i took.
Gigantic brown Eaglets.
Two of them.
& they are self feeding!
These look to be two weeks or so ahead of our webcam Nest.

Each Eaglet had their own little something or other that they were tearing away at.

Dunlop Point goes out a LONG ways & is an excellent area to go fishing.
The Dunlops benefit greatly from the things fishing people throw overboard.

i*m a long ways off, so here*s a bit of a jiggly video of them eating.

Mum is in a Babysitting Tree off to the right.
Once in a while she calls.

Mum calls out & Dad flies in from the shore where he was looking for more food.

i got back on my bike & headed out, but then found a spot from the road where i can also see in.
The light isn*t from the right direction so my fotos are all blurry but here is the best one i got of Dad with the Eaglets.
He was feeding the Eaglets.
i went by later in the day when the light was coming in at a better angle, but the Eaglets were out of sight.

A quick peek at this Nest on my bike ride.
That*s Mum to the left, then one of the Eaglets & then Dad, who seemed to be eating.

i went back to check on this Nest & found both Eaglets branching already!

Notice the parent behind the second Eaglet, higher up in the Tree.

The other parent is in the background in this foto & in the first foto above, & this Eaglet is making a fuss to get their attention.

Yesterday i went for a bike ride without my camera as it was dark & looking like rain, & when i came near this Nest i was pretty sure i*d seen an Eagle fly who wasn*t an adult!
When this Eagle flew back & landed on top of the Nest Tree, my feeling was confirmed!
So at least one Eaglet here is already fledged.
i suspect both are, but i*ll have to go back & look again.
