Shingle Spit Nest - 2019-2020 Season
« on: November 07, 2019, 07:53:15 AM »
The Shingle Spit Nest is very close to where you get off the ferry that arrives at Hornby Island when you come over from Denman.
The Nest is a bit hard to spot, but you can see the Eagles coming & going & perched in Trees near the ferry.
This is a beautiful spot, overlooking Shingle Spit, a really cool formation, the waters of Lambert Channel, which run between Hornby & Denman, Denman Island itself, & an almost never-ending spectacle of wildlife including Ducks, Great Blue Herons, Eagles of all ages, Orca & even Humpback Whales, as well as Cormorants, Black Oystercatchers, you name it.

This Eagle was to my left, making female calls.
There was another Eagle making female calls further to the left, on the point.
i forget what this point is called, wren?

Lovely markings on the Loon.
i watched them come up from a dive with a live Crab in their bill but my camera wouldn*t focus fast enough to catch that.

i got out to look at the Birds perched on the dock to my right.

The local ferry captains called it Windy Point.
