Nest Dunlop Point - 2018 season
« on: March 06, 2018, 08:53:52 PM »

The Dunlop Nest is in a FABULOUS location.
On a point with a view to forever, a huge amount of shore for food, & lots of lovely Arbutus Trees.

Last year*s posts, & links to previous years can be found here.

We went for a walk on Sandpiper & at one point i looked back at the Dunlop Nest & was sure i saw a white head in there that was moving.
i took a few fotos & when i looked at them on the monitor i thought it was just a trick of light & something white in the Nest.
i thought the same thing when i looked at them on the computer but then something clicked & out jumped the yellow eye & beak of an Eagle incubating!
They are panting on this warm sunny day.

Latest news...

May 18, 2:29 pm

Click to enlarge. One little dark head visible on the left, and looks like the back or wing of another eaglet on the right.
The white stuff on the nest edge puzzled me; it looked too thick to be grass. Turns out to be an entire bird, imbedded into the nest structure. Possibly a bleached-out gull; I can't think of anything else that would fit that size and shape.

And then the second adult comes in with a fish!

Feeding time. Two little heads on the left.

Good to see the eagle parent feeding the eaglets!

We went for a walk on Sandpiper Beach near the Dunlop Nest & on our way back i noticed an adult Eagle at the shore flapping & there was an Otter right there!
Perhaps the Eagle pinched what the Otter was eating or nabbed a scrap?
The Eagle flew off toward the shore & continued on & into the Dunlop Nest where i heard an adult call.
The Otter swam off.
The tide was way out at this time.
As we got closer to the Nest i took a few fotos, hoping to catch something & lucked out!
Number one, an adult was perched nearby with a HUGE crop pushing out their down feathers.
Number two, you*ll have to click & click the foto to zoom in, you can see the yellow commissure/gape of a young brown-headed Eaglet!
In my other fotos there is another brown shape moving around in there too.

Sweet!  Hope to see a little face like this in the Erickson nest soon!  Thanks, Booni!
