Nest 20 Whaling Station Bay - 2018 Season
« on: March 02, 2018, 10:37:08 AM »

This Nest is on a rocky point that separates Middle Bay from Whaling Station Bay.
It is right in peoples* yard, on the waterfront.
In the winter it is nice & quiet but in the summer there are LOTS of visitors to the neighbourhood & to the Bays on either side.

To see what happened in this territory last year, & to find the links to previous years, click here.

On february 26, there was a Herring Spawn in Middle Bay!
i*d heard about it but didn*t believe it so we went for a walk elsewhere.
Well, it was indeed true.
Next day i went there to have a look around.
Saw lots of contented Gulls & Sea Lions, & lots of Eagles flying back & forth & a few perched in the Trees there.
You could smell the smell of Herring in the air!
Spotted this cutie pie very close to the Nest Tree, looking out towards the point there.

Around the point & closer to Middle Bay i spotted this gorgeous Eagle.
Looks like a three year old, entering their fourth year soon!

Nearby, another pair of youngsters.
This one is immature.

A friend lucked out & had plans to go out kayaking from Middle Bay & it ended up being right in the middle of the Herring Spawn that happened here that day.
i asked him for some fotos to show it & here they are.
