Then another bird lands... Only two rocks away!
A Greater Yellowlegs.
He doesn't seem to know I'm there. Only the lens of my camera and the top of my head are visible; I'm careful not to show my eyes.
He's walking in my direction!
Grassy Point, January 27, 1:52 pm
He's crossing a little channel that the waves rush into from time to time.
1:53
Looking for tiny critters under the rocks.
1:54
Not at all bothered by the current, seemingly...

Closer yet!
Just one rock away now.
Grassy Point, January 27, 1:57 pm
And closer, in the water right near my rock.
1:58
Then changed his mind, turned around and went to where he first landed, overlooking the open water and the pounding surf, with those beautiful yellow lichens on the rocks.
Then disappeared on the other side of the rock and to the left.

Doing a driveby yesterday, i lucked out & found Dad at the top of The Peters* Tree!
Unbelievable!
His beak is looking really good!
Also, notice here, i took fotos of an Eagle in The His & Hers Tree two days ago that i haven*t posted & i wasn*t sure who the Eagle was.
They had a black patch towards the end of their beak on the right side.
i don*t see that mark on Dad, two days later.
i*ll post the other fotos another time.

Look at the injury here!
Whatever was sticking out of the nare seems to be at least mostly gone.
& there seems to be nice healing growth into what was a nasty gaping hole!

On my way home i always trace the same route, scanning all the perch Trees then stopping for a peek at Grassy Point.
On this day i spotted an Eagle in The Fork Tree.
i waited quite a while but this was about all i got.
They are looking at Grassy Point, not at me.
All i can say is this is not Dad.

On my swing past Grassy Point i spot an Eagle in The His & Hers Tree.
i figured this must be Dad but i am not at all convinced that this is him.
Note the dark patch on the beak near the end, which isn*t visible two days later in the fotos posted above.

i don*t see Dad*s beak injury here.

i forgot to mention, after the last two posts, that there was also an Eagle on top of Gregg*s Tree at that time.
i assumed it was Em, but now who knows?
i forget why i didn*t stop to photograph.
i probably needed to pee...

We had a surprise snow storm saturday night!
There were flakes coming down in the rain when i went out for wood for the woodstove at 10pm that evening, but it didn*t sound likely that we would get anything more than that.
As it got light sunday morning i was surprised to see my skylight covered in snow!
i couldn*t believe my eyes when i got up & found snow stuck to everything in the brilliant blue sky sunshine.
The wind was roaring that night, & the snow must have started out wet & sticky because the northwest side of everything had snow stuck to it, even the vertical surfaces.
Wires were wrapped in 3" of snow.
But it must have been followed by drier snow, & now the Wind was whipping that into the air like a fresh sparkling snow storm.
i was one of the few lucky people who still had power.
Most of the Island was out due to fallen Trees on wires.
But surprisingly the cam, only two blocks away, seemed down, so i walked down to the shed to check that the power was really out.
There had only been one vehicle down my road, so i followed the tire tracks.
The power was out indeed at the shed.
There was a Tree down on the lines down the road towards Sollans, closer to Hidden Beach.
i took pictures of the Nest Tree.
In this picture you can see how the back side of the wide angle cam is covered in the wet sticky snow that blew there.
february 18 2018 12:36 - snow on the Nest!
Then i walked down to Grassy Point to see what it looked like there.
i did some panorama fotos to show how it looked.
Click on them to see them bigger.
The His & Hers Tree to the left & Texada Island in the distance.
february 18 2018 12:27 - snow on Grassy Point!
The pebbly bay to the left of the rocky point.
The waves & wind were roaring.
Glass House Trees to the right.

I can see the center pole of the medicine wheel in this last photo.
Glad to see that it is still standing!
