« Reply #165 on: December 27, 2017, 12:59:00 PM »

i was invited out to dinner at a neighbour*s place near me last evening & they were excited to tell me a very interesting story!
They live on the water front, to the left of Grassy Point, but not as left as Niner territory.
They are always seeing Whales, a Trumpeter Swan, oodles of Birds, they have a Pileated Woodpecker that visits their yard regularly.
On c*mas day at 11:54am someone called from a cell phone number that i didn*t recognize.
Usually this is a wildlife in distress call.
But whoever it was hadn*t left a message.
So this leaves me guessing & wondering for days.
Why didn*t they leave a message?
What were they calling about?
If they left a message i could call them back!
Are they going to call me again later & i won*t be there again?
Well, we finally figured out, it was this couple who had called me, & they didn*t call from their home phone, because it was in use.
i would have recognized their name & number if they had.
She was in such a panic she*d forgotten that she*d called me from her cellphone.
She*d seen white way out in the water past Grassy Point, & was worried something had gone wrong with the single white Trumpeter Swan she*d seen in the water out front of her place recently.
Usually you see Trumpeters in groups, why had this one been alone?
So she got out her binoculars to see, & realized it was an Eagle with a white head in the water!
That was when she panicked & called me.
When i didn*t answer, she didn*t want to worry me with a message.
She was about to call wren when she realized, via her binoculars, that the Eagle was actually swimming with their wings, & had made a LOT of progress towards the land.
So then she just watched this Eagle make their way towards the land at a surprising pace, til eventually they arrived on land & they had a huge Fish in their feet!
They thought, not a Salmon, but big, with a tail hanging down.
Immediately a second Eagle flew in & they both ate!
This MUST have been Dad & Em!
Check the obs & the videos for this day, you can see where this likely occurred.
It sounds to me as though Dad nabbed this Fish somehow by flying out over the water, but then he couldn*t lift it from the water & had to SWIM all the way in!
They said he was soaking wet.
Wow, i*m glad he made it in safely!
& he must have brought the Fish as a gift for Em since the second he landed, she joined him to eat!
They said one of them finally took off with the Fish & they could see the tail hanging down of the Fish.
i wish wish wish she had left me a message, because wouldn*t this have been fabulous to document.
But anyway, what a nice coincidence that they saw this & that they were able to tell me the exciting story last night!
wooohoooo!

Thanks for your report booni.  Looks as if Dad is strong enough to swim that far. Great news that they had plenty to eat!

Fish gift time is here!    :heart

On the same day that i spotted Em in the Nest eating, i went to Phipps Point & spotted a lovely Eagle that i posted about in that topic plus i found a dead Barred Owl in the seaweed there!
It was still sunny on my way home so i drove through the Nest neighbourhood & spotted Dad & Em in the His & Hers Tree in lovely setting Sun light!
In this first foto, Dad has his back to us, it is Em on the right.

This foto shows Dad*s beak injury really well, & it is looking pretty good!
Looks like there is some keratin growing down over the injury from above.

They seemed to be looking at something down & to the left.
Here Dad is really craning his neck to look.

Beautiful photos and story booni!
What a sight that must have been!

I remember watching mom fishing,
and when she nabbed a big fish and was
flying back to shore with it, I dropped Nancy
on the rocks!   :mhihi

Nice to see dad's beak looking a bit better!

Just before the countdown.
You can see The His & Hers Tree in the middle, the tallest Tree, & the Glass House Trees far left.
Niner territory way off to the right.
Click on the foto to see it bigger & better.
