I went to check Hidden Beach... I was hoping to find a Eurasian Wigeon that I spotted last week, and sure enough it was still there, but the photos didn't turn out great. Still, I can add it as a count-week bird for the Christmas Bird Count.

There was a lot of action by the little creek, the same area where the neighbours photographed all the eagles, as Booni showed in her last post.
This creek is a favourite bathing area for the gulls also.

And here's what happened next...  smile

There had been a flock of Oystercatchers resting on Grassy Point... and now they started to fly in.

They calmly made their way toward the creek.

Meanwhile the creek is still full of gulls!

Hidden Beach, December 11, 1:40 pm

So for the time being, the Oystercatchers head out into the ocean, where it is mixed with fresh water from the creek, and start bathing there. They have a nice soak before they start splashing around.

A few more gulls join them there.

While I was busy taking photos of the oystercatchers, the gulls finally vacated the creek! The oystercatchers saw that too, and some of them moved to the gulls' freshwater bathing pool.
One gull joined them there too.
Be sure to click on the pictures and look at the faces.  Oystercatchers are beyond fabulous. love

Once again a nice soak to start...

Rub-a-dub-dub.

Dipping one wing way down...
Hidden Beach, December 11, 1:43 pm

...And stretching the other wing way up...

And now the other side...

And rinse it all out.

Yesterday i got to go out on a lovely old wooden fish boat with a group of birders to do an off shore Bird count!
We*d had fog since forEVER, but the Sun came out all day for our trip.
The water was calm & flat, you couldn*t*ve asked for a better day in december!
We left Ford Cove & went north along Heron Rocks & Norris Rocks then out towards Helliwell & Flora Island.
It was somewhere out there that we started seeing Orca!
You can see the videos i got of them here.
After that we cruised along the north shore of Hornby until we were passing the Nest neighbourhood.
So i was trying to see what i could see of it from the water.
The Shrimp boat was out, as it seems to be every day.
Only now it is a different boat!
Not sure when that switch took place.
i*ll post fotos of the new boat later.
Suddenly i noticed an Eagle flying out from the territory over the water, & i even managed to track them with this video.
This is likely either Dad or Em.
They flew out then did a loop & returned.
i never saw them go down to the water, they just looked down from the air.
In the webcam videos, a second Eagle returns to the first at this same time.
