Nest 36 - Strachan Valley - 2017 season
« on: July 26, 2017, 07:44:05 PM »

Go here to get the rundown on this Nesting territory, to see the map of Hornby Nests made by wren, & to find links to previous seasons of this Nest.
There is also a foto of the Nest Tree there.

i was in this territory today, & heard one Eaglet calling.
One of the fellas here thinks there is only one Eaglet, & he pointed out the Nest Tree to me.
It was the same one that wren showed us if you click the link in the topic opening above.

Today we went for a walk uphill from what used to be Beaver Lake, through the woods to the big grassy hill where the bike races used to be held.
Close to the very end of Strachan Road, from the grassy field, i heard an Eaglet calling, so perhaps the one from this Nest?

I met the closest neighbour of this nest today and she said the eaglet is not flying yet, but fleaps around from branch to branch on the nest tree. She also said that the eaglet has become way louder in the past few days.

I'm thinking the nest is probably close enough to the field where you were, Booni?

Did Beaver Lake become a meadow, as often eventually happens, or did something else change it, booni?    Curious minds would like to know.  :puzzled2   :ecsmile

The Beavers are no longer damming the water & creating the lake, so yes it has all turned to meadow though there are very marshy areas in the rainy seaon.

Thank you, for the information, booni.

My brother has to keep removing logs and sticks because beavers keep placing them at his 3 1/2 acre pond outlet.  They want a dam!   :toetap
