Common Loons - Maine BRI Looncam
« on: June 02, 2010, 09:08:01 AM »
I've been watching and waiting for the BRI Maine Loons to nest at this site for a couple of years now. They keep coming close and their wails, mews and two-tone yodles are incredible. The cam is lovely to have on in the background too. Occasionally a Muskrat swims by also.

Here is a long sequence of about 60 frames (15 seconds apart) of a visit at around 2:09 pm yesterday today.

The webcam is on www.briloon.org website.

The pair of Loons are very close to the cam and giving off the most amazing wails and yodles, echoing across the lake.

Me too, beans.. the bird sounds are lovely, but when the Loons are around, it's eerie, haunting and beautiful.

I just turned the cam on at around 07:40 to find both Loons on the bank, mewing - one went back into the water and the other has remained on the bank... looks hopeful. Lots of wailing from the one that went into the water.
