The Wiigs occupy the territory just to the right of Em & Dad*s.
We can see them in their perch Trees on Sandstone Point, & on the Point itself, with our webcam.
Their Nest Tree is absolutely stupendous.
You can see a bit of the back edge of it from the road, but i haven*t managed to spot it from the beach yet, nor have i found a good vantage point to see into it better than from the road, so this makes it a had Nest to observe.
You can read about last season, & find links to previous seasons here.

We went for a walk down Brigantine to check out the Wiig*s area & then the Brig Nest area.
On our way back we got invited in to a property & then on to the beach for a view of what was going on down there.
We spotted this Raven, who was not far away & not at all perturbed by our presence.
Unusual, for a Raven.
i figured something was wrong, so i started taking fotos.
You can see hunger bars in this Raven*s tail feathers, areas that were growing during a period of lack of food, causing the feather to grow out during that time in poor quality.
The lines slant upward, from the shaft, & there are even areas that have broken off at the bar.
The feather just to the left has bars, without broken sections.
You will need to click the foto to see it properly, it posted skewed.

The Raven was aware of the attention being paid to them.

& yet didn*t fly off from this log on the beach.
Click to see foto not skewed.

Oh, phew, now they are walking along the log, but still strange not to be flying off.

Then after this they flew off!

i took Otto on a walk past this Nest yesterday to see if anything is going on.
i am not even sure i can see the Nest from the road any more.
Is it still there & is the greenery just blocking the view in?
It was such a substantial Nest, i can*t quite believe it is not still there.
i always look at this Tree, as there was almost always an Eagle perched there.
Lately there doesn*t seem to be.
On my way back, i looked & looked again.
Was it a trick of the light?
Nope!

Tonight i had this gorgeous VERY young Eagle brought to me.
It sounds like she came from the Wiig Nest.
The next door neighbour to the Wiig driveway found this little one just inside her gate in her fenced yard.
i believe the Nest is just above this area & over to the left a bit.
He had the Eaglet in a box in his truck.
When he opened the lid to show me, i couldn*t believe how young this one was!
There are sheathed feathers everywhere, & chips of the sheaths all caught in the feathers.
There is still grey down visible, especially on the legs!
This young one isn*t even standing on her feet yet.
She is still clumping around on her hocks.

Look at the grey fluffy down on the legs!
The tail feathers have only just begun to emerge.
Still grey down poking out from under the new dark brown feathering, too.

i didn*t get this in foto, but this little one was giving me the Semi talk!
Remember chatty Semi at MARS?

This is Aaron, who has rescued Eagles on Hornby before, too.

What a beauty!!! Poor wee thing, well not too wee...lol... but too bad it has fallen from nest.  I sure MARS can help it get to fledging but I am sure it will be a long haul with no parents to teach it.  Aww would have been cute to hear it talking to you and yes I remember Semi well...love that one and her chatter.    Thank you Aaron and Booni !!

Three more fotos of the wee nestling yesterday where she was found & then *captured*.
Look how tough she is behaving, even standing on her feet & mantling!
Her feet seem a bit pale?

A wonderful series of photos!  How cute!  If huge and vicious can be cute!  Hardly vicious, but those talons, that beak!  And such bright sharp eyes!  Beautiful baby! Thanks for sharing! love

So it turns out they are going to re-nest this young Eagle!
Steve the Tree climber who has helped MARS in the past with Tree-related rescues is going to climb the Wiig Nest Tree & put the Eaglet back.
She was a good weight but had a HUGE parasite load.
They treated her for that then gave her fluids & tonight some food, & tomorrow morning will be coming over to bring her back to her Nest, parents, & perhaps sibling.
Here she is being held & checked by Reg at the new MARS.
Look at the Eaglet, she is saying, i am just going to look over here where i can*t SEE you, you are NOT here & holding me right now!

Ha ha, she*s feisty!
