It isn*t often that you catch an Eagle with their feathered eyelid closed like this.
They would be like this at night when they are sleeping, with their head tucked back into their wing.

i forgot to post this two nights ago.
cali had called & told me about all the scavenging going on on Sandstone & wondering what they were all eating.
i was too pooped to head out there at the end of my day so i wrote to the woman who found the Wiig Eaglet who lives right on the point & asked her what they were all eating.
Here is her reply.

Hi Barb,
It looks like a dead baby sea lion or a very bloated seal.

July 23, I could hear the Merlins and Em from my deck and went to check it out.

I found this Merlin sitting and preening at the top of Gregg's Tree.

Merlin at the top of Gregg's Tree.

Takeoff...
July 23, 7:02 pm

Meanwhile Em is on the Babysitting Tree... The merlin flew off that way and I heard at least two of them calling, while a third zooms by in the other direction. Em squawked back at them a couple of times but stayed where she was as far as I could see.

Next I went looking for Dad but could not find him.

Youngest son and I  spent the weekend  at Sunwapta Falls in the Rockies with his  youngest daughter, for her 20th birthday, and every time the wind came our way the sun looked just like that - kinda creepy/beautiful. I feel sick about the  animal suffering, and loss of habitat,  and our loss of carbon sink as well. So much more added to our already suffering atmosphere. sad
