Olsen Farm Nest - 2016 Season

This is a fabulous nesting territory.
A beautiful grassy huge farm field on a long stretch of exquisite shoreline.
You gotta walk a long way to get to this Nest.
i have only seen the Nest area from above, on the road.
Last year*s topic, & links to previous years, can be found
here.

Today i drove past this territory, looking for the bathing Eagles again, & there was nary a one.
i turned around at Ford Cove & drove back up the hill, oggling the view, when i passed a huge Bird near the road & that Bird wasn*t as big as an Eagle!
There is almost nowhere to pull over on that road, so i had to drive up the hill to pull over then walk back down.
i was trying to be careful & quiet, unlike the cars whizzing past, yet the big Bird flew away just as i was getting close.
As they flew off, i saw a red tail!
i intended to watch them fly away, to see where they landed, but didn*t manage.
i scanned & scanned, but had no luck spotting where they went.
Walking back up the hill to my car, i kept looking, & spotted a dark lump in a Tree down in the field.
FOUND them!
march 15 2016 16:49 - Red-tail Hawk
This is the best sighting i*ve ever had of one of these Birds!
Spotted!
& my last foto i got.
i watched the Hawk fly around the field for a while, then lost them.
Cool!
Last year, i had something interesting happen very near this same spot!
Read about that
here.

After checking the
Heron Rocks territory
I continued along the beach to the end of Olsen Farm and this nest.
I couldn't hear any sounds but from way back I could see a dark silhouette on the nest, and two white heads in the nest tree.
July 17, 12:57
I sat on a rock at a distance for an hour, waiting to see if a second eaglet would show itself. None of the eagles moved, despite the presence of a group of people passing right under the tree at one point. Must have been nap time.
After a while I detoured way out to see the other side of the nest.
There was still only that one eaglet visible, standing tall in the same spot, only now I could see more of him.
Here are the parents first.
1:46 pm
1:47
And now the eaglet, with beak open and tongue sticking out to cool down.
1:49
It really does look like only one eaglet on this nest.
