Phipps Point is where the ferry used to dock, & go from Hornby to Denman.
The old concrete ferry ramp is still there.
This is a popular locals hangout, great for sunset.
The Nest Tree is right beside the road, covered in Ivy up the trunk, on a bank looking out over the water towards Denman & Vancouver Island.
i walk here a lot with Otto, & don*t always see Eagles, but there are lots of other interesting things to see in this territory!
Last season*s obs, & links to previous seasons, can be found here.

This time we walked the other way, towards Shingle Spit/the ferry, & we spotted this lovely Heron.
Look how the right leg is bent & relaxed, & lower on the rock than the left.

at first glance I might think Canada Geese also - chubby little fellows! I guess that is their winter layer of fat.

You can see both males & females there!
Some have their heads tucked in napping.
We turned around, so as to not disturb them.
The tides are so high in the daytime, & they are lying in thick piles of seaweed!

Two weeks ago, I was told that the Phipps Point eagles had been carrying branches to a different grove of trees. This morning a neighbour confirmed that they seem to be working steadily on a new nest. I hope to be able to investigate this sometime today.
