We returned to look at the Sea Lion again, but there were too many Eagles there, so we stayed far away.
i filmed this young Eagle trying to eat the Sea Lion.
You can see it is hard work, & they are not getting much with each bite.
The youngsters seem to tug & tug at the tough skin, & it doesn*t budge.
They need to go inside the skin to get something easier to bite off.

We went down to Phipps Point to have another look at the Sea Lion washed up at Trimbles* Corner, but there were Eagles there so we stopped short of scaring them away.
This adult was standing in the water, seeming to wash his feet & beak, probably after eating.
The oil from a Sea Lion is very thick & sticky.

Great close-ups and reflections of the eagle drinking fresh water, booni.

On June 16 I briefly checked this nest and didn't see any eagles. I returned the next day with my portable blind and sat for over an hour with a nice view of the nest.
On my way in, i spotted two adult eagles on rocks at the water's edge. The tide was low, fishing time.
This is what the nest looked like from where I sat under my camouflage cover.

There are some new branches on the nest, including one with fresh green on it.
At one point there was a small visitor at the tip of the stump.
10:18 am
A Cedar Waxwing. I knew there were some on the island - Booni has photographed them before - but these two days were the first times I saw some. They don't show up in my little woodland yard but this area is more open, with lots of farmland.
Here's the one I saw on June 16, eating Saskatoon berries on the other side of the nest.

Meanwhile the 2 adult eagles remained out of view. Once in a while I heard gulling calls coming from where I had last seen them, by the water. There were no sounds and no movement from the nest.
When I started on my way back, the two eagles were still at the water's edge.
The sky reflected in shallow pools on the shore, making nice patterns.
In the first photo we can see one of the eagles. The other one is out of the frame to the left.

Meanwhile I watched the little birds. Many pairs of Rufous Hummingbirds seemed to be courting. There were Barn Swallows skimming the air. The Waxwing came for a closer look. I also spotted an Orange-crowned Warbler and some Song Sparrows.
This White-crowned Sparrow stopped and posed for me, lucky me!

Meanwhile, still no noise from the nest, no food delivery, and no poopshots on the rim or under the tree. It's possible that these eagles, like Dad and Em, are taking a break this year.

Lovely pictures of songbirds. I wonder if weather/temps affect eagle fertility? We saw good food supply. Thank you for your observations and patience. Portable blind benefits us all!
