i was driving through the *hood, looking for Eagles, & spotted this dark Bird from afar.
They didn*t seem like an adult Eagle to me, maybe they were a Raven?
But as i got closer, i was pretty sure this was a young Eagle.
A juvenile Eagle!
Not even a year old yet!
Maybe this is that late fledge from Nest #9 last season!
What a sweetie-pie!
Look at that lovely milk chocolatey  brown eye. heartssmiles

i was just doing some last minute things out in my yard before coming in the house when i noticed the Raven pair in the Tree across the road from me.
One was in the lower down branch & the other was near the top.
It was the one near the top that caught my eye, as that is where Eagles often perched.
So i was watching that one, then noticed a small glint of sun hitting the one lower down.
i went back to whatever i was doing but then i heard the distinctive sound of wings hitting branches next to my house!
i thought there might be an Eagle in the Cedars next to my house!
Or even two Eagles!
Last year, two had crashed into those same Trees, with their talons/feet locked on each other.
They fly at each other, one flips upside down & they grasp each others* feet & spin, neither wanting to let go.
It is a game of chicken.
Then they so don*t want to let go that they end up crashing down into Trees or the ground.
This sounded like the same thing.
i kept hearing flap flap against the branches, but just saw dark in there.
i got my camera, thinking to video.
Then i heard crash crash crash & a huge thud as they hit the ground.
Eagles don*t weigh much, but i guess when they are locked together, they are dead weight when they hit the ground.
One of the, i believe, Niner Eagles landed in the Tree across the road & cachunked, & the other flew overhead, going kind of from mishi*s Tree towards their Nest Tree.
So likely this was two other Eagles.
i went walking in to where i thought they were, quietly, slowly, listening, but i heard nothing.
Then i noticed that both Ravens were in one of the Trees in there.
Maybe the Eagles had food.
But i wasn*t hearing or seeing anything on the ground.
i figured i must have missed them flying off.
But the Ravens were there, so i kept looking.
Then the Ravens flew off.
i thought i would just make my way towards my house when i heard something, & saw the two Eagles trying to separate from each other on the ground.
One had their head up, & it was a big round head full of fluffy shadowed female head feathers, i thought.
My approach allowed them to separate.
i think it startles them into letting go when they might otherwise have hung on for a lot longer.
There was not a sound or a cry from them.
Just the sound of the wing feathers on the branches caught my ear.
i had my camera on, but one Eagle went hopping off, leaving the other there.
That Eagle had trouble getting in the air with all the low Trees in the way.
Then the second one did the same thing, having trouble getting away with all the Trees, wings hitting the branches.
i walked around in there & found no down feathers where they*d been.
Wow!
That was really something.
i went back home, & then i noticed there was an Eagle perched in the Tree across the road from me.
As i trained my camera on her, she was cachunking!
Oh man oh man, she sounded so much like Mum!
& she even LOOKED like her!
i wished i was videoing instead of photographing.

Here, she is looking towards the webcam Nest area.
Maybe there is a little bit in the crop?
This looks SO MUCH like Mum!

Here, not so much.

i*m having moments of *This is MUM!*
Then moments like this, where, no, i don*t think so.
But this Eagle is putting up with me taking fotos of them.
The Niners usually blast off when they see me.

i thought i might get better footage in the failing light with a video.
In the background you can hear Eagles trilling over towards the webcam Nest.
You also hear a Starling imitating an Eagle trilling!  mhihi
Something is going on.
She is looking towards the webcam Nest, then over to the Niner Nest & Niner water side perch Trees.
i am losing focus but manage to bring it back.
Then she cachunks!
& is off towards the Niner Nest.
A bit later, i hear trills from the back of my property, where the Niners perch sometimes.

Oh Booni thank you so much! I love you for taking so much time and trouble to get all views and sounds.  love   I agree it could be mom, but I didn't see her distinctive back part. This girl needs a spa treatment just as badly as our dear mom, and IMHO she also looks kind of old. Sorry eagle but that is how you looked to me.  confused

Today there was an Eagle in this same Tree again!
Only in way better light.

january 10 2016 12:46 - Eagle in the Tree across the road from me

Look how she has a bit of dark just above her beak on her forehead, & smears of light dark on her cheeks behind her eye.
So a newly adult Eagle.
