Feb.12, 2015 AM Drive

I had been out and when I came home and checked the drive - Q-Male quite at home on Djuma. He had been there some time and left just after I took these to pictures. Handsome, healthy looking lad.

Feb. 12, 2015 AM Drive

Handsome "Quarantine Male" was the star of the show. Stayed with him for the better part of two hours! He tried hunting, but the prey (an Impala and a large bird) saw him in time to get away.

Hi there 'TL'.

Great that you are able to watch the drives. i was sorry to miss so much of the drive - but the leopards haven't been sending me a 'alert' that they will be there. :eclol

Great pic of Q-Male.

Baby Ellie Says 'Boo' to Scott (Feb. 2015)

2015 WildEarth

This little ellie showed plenty of 'attitude' and approached the Jigga as if to say, "I'm an elephant and I can scare you, so there!" (And then quickly ran back to Mama!)

Hi 'TL' I loved that sighting with the 'baby' ellie. Thanks for the photo.

Two more photos of the handsome Q-Male when he visited Djuma on the 12th. Both photos posted on FB by my long time safari friend 'CJ'.

Full body stretch

And - now for a nap - maybe or just a deep breath?

Fanfare required for Feb. 14, 2015 sunset drive - well done Tara

Sunset by Bryan - to set the mood

We have known for a couple of days that our Lady /Queen of Djuma has been in the area.

She has finally been seen on her home base! I wonder if her sons convinced to come for a visit. Tara was ecstatic to say the least.

N.B. Tara has three more drives and back to her project. It has been super to see her again. Thanks and good luck to you.

You know missed the sighting - still sleeping. :ecsad

Thanks for the Karula pictures, BBE. (I was asleep then.) It's great to know she came back to Djuma, even if it's just for a visit. Maybe we'll see more of her soon. :eclove

I have made a post twice with some pictures from the quiet Sunday morning drive. I obviously hit the wrong key to 'Post' it. Will try once more :puzzled2

A very quiet drive except for now two female hyena and 4 pups. There was a small breeding herd of ellies, but clear enough through bus to take a pic. I did take one of the YBHB - but very dark as in a tree. These are pics of pretty well all we saw. I left 40 minutes before the end of the drive; but nothing happened after that as the odd rain drop became more and Tara headed for the LHP.

Tara ready to head out on the drive.

On of the female hyenas with two of the pups.

Two male impala

Young male Duiker

Bateleur flying high in the sky

Hibiscus flower

Burchell's Starling

Ominous sky over Djuma

Note: Tara has two drives remaining:
 • Sunday morning PST at 6 a.m. = the PM drive CAT.
 • Sunday evening PST at 8 p.m. = last drive for Tara on Monday morning (CAT).

I was not 'on' the PM drive. The jungle drums have been in overdrive since it ended.

As it turns out PM drive was Tara's last drive. Scott was to be back today, but is either not coming back or delayed. A new person 'Brent' will be doing a tryout on the Monday Feb. 16 (CAT) drive.

Tara will pop in at the beginning of the drive to say 'farewell' to all who were/ weren't on the AM drive.

Tara, it has been lovely to have you back with us and I know I am not the only one who hopes you may come back again - soon.

Good luck with your work on the Ingwe Leopard Project and also on your 'big' paper:

Tara says goodbye.

Feb. 16 - AM Drive with Brent

Tara was on camera for about 30 seconds to say a final good bye. We all wish here continued success with the Leopard Project and receiving her Ph.D.

Tara

She then introduced Brent. Brent Leo-Smith has worked at various lodges and in the bush in several of the countries in Africa - Botswana, Chad, Gabon, Namibia, Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe (or Zambia) to name a few. He certainly is well versed in African animals, birds and customs. He has quickly learned to repeat people's question and name.
A keeper in my books. He has two FB pages and his photography is amazing and interesting.

Brent

Welcome Brent.

I had to leave the drive for about an hour. Missed a large pack of Wild Dogs (14 or 15); Brent's favourite animal. They apparently crossed over to area where WE can not go!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Wfo4RC5g6w

A Liz Willette Wolff posted on FB's group for Djuma Djunkies. She posted a Tweet from a Clancy Phillips containing a link to Brent's background. Impressive.

Here are the African Wild Dogs. Nice pack of mixed ages. (Several were off-camera.)
