Re: Tara's Blogs re Karula & Family 2010 & 2011

One animal most of us are attached to is Karula, the resident and beautiful female leopard and the three sets of twins she has given birth to since we started watching the drives.

In January 2011, Tara Pirie started writing blogs about Karula (a.k.a. The Diva of Djuma) and her family. The posts with links to the blogs were scattered throughout the WildEarth Drive topic.  Then in late 2010 Tara started writing blogs about the latest set of twins, born in Oct. 2010.

In June 2011, I corralled all the blogs for both topics made two posts on the WildEarth Cam topic.  As the WildEarth cam topic is now closed  I have copied them into this topic.

Tara has also been wonderful in keeping us up to date about Karula and Yambilu-Jordaan’s new family.  Karula was seen mating with Yambilu-Jordaan in Aug. 2010 and Karula gave birth to twins in Nov. 2010.  Karula maintained an extremely low profile during her approximate 100 days of gestation. And even after the cubs were born, she was extremely protective of them, moving them frequently. WE reported and we frequently saw lions on the drives after Karula gave birth.  Our first sighting of Karula with her cubs was Jan. 27, 2011 when they would have been about 2 months old. In April 2011 it was confirmed that the cubs were a boy and a girl.
