From time to time, the Hornby nest & territory cam goes offline.  Sometimes it is because of a power outage on Hornby; sometimes we take the cam offline for maintenance. Sometimes the broadcast via Ustream is turned off and restarted in order to provide a steadier stream.

If we have any long-term downtime planned, we will post about it here.

Wednesday, October 1, 2014 is the day that Dan will climb Gregg's tree and clean the cam.  We will most likely leave the cam online while this is done. I am not sure when he plans to start, most likely between 8 AM and 9 AM.  Several HEGPS members and chatters will be on hand to supervise.  V

ETA: We expect Dan at 9:30 A.M.  on Wednesday.

Later yesterday afternoon we heard back from Uniserve and after doing a thorough search of our lines, they discovered there is an issue with the phone line that carries the internet to our cam.  They contacted Telus and an appointment has been set for December 5 (this is the first available date Telus has open) to come in and spend the day correcting the issues.  Thank you for your patience and, hopefully, our eagles will be back in view on December 5.

Chatango is offline.  We need to be patient and wait for them to get their service up and running again.  BC Hydro is also reporting a power outage for Hornby Island with an estimated time of repair at 11 am

An update on the chatango chat issues.  We really have no idea what is going on.  It appears some can load it and others can't.  We have no control over this - it is a third party chat program that is embedded on our web page.  Be patient and keep trying to load it.  This morning it hung up for awhile but it finally loaded for me.

Did a little bit of investigating this morning about the Chatango issues we have been experiencing.  It appears from what I could gather from various internet sources (we know how reliable those are) that Chatango has been under DDoS attack and that is what has been causing the resets and the down time.  They are working on trying to find ways to counter the attacks and until they are resolved, we will have issues.

Chatango is continuing to have issues associated with the DDoS attacks on their servers. For an explanation of what this means go here http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/D/DDoS_attack.html

Until these issues are resolved we have set up Chat on Ustream at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/hornbyeaglecam# In order to chat with us there, you must register and then log in with your username. It is not as colorful or as fun as Chatango but it will be reliable. The same chat rules will apply and the moderators are already in place. Please join us.
