It is so good to have the two of them back on Hornby.  They have been spending a lot of time together.  Yesterday early the two of them escorted another pair of eagles toward Sandstone area and later Dad was escorting another eagle near His and Hers toward the Niner territory while Mom watched from atop His and Hers.  Later in the day they spent hours in the babysitting tree together trilling, whooping and cachunking at what I suppose were visitors - no escorts and no chases - just lots and lots of talking.

Did you all see the "action"  on October 20?  A few days ago, yes, but my reaction time is getting slower.

Dad brought several sticks to the nest, including a really long one  ... but then he was pruning the shrubbery in front of the WA cam - Have we ever seen him here before?

This is amazing.
Any insights as to why he's doing this?
Of course, aside from last summer, there is no way we would have caught this behaviour before, except from the ground, and the odds of that would have been abysmal.

wren, I have no idea what Dad was up to!  I could see that he bit off some greenery (it fell through the front of the branches at one point) - but if he did not want the greenery for the nest, then I don't know why he did that.

Always something new to see through this cam.

Monday, October 28

Both eagles were in the nest around sunset.  The cam "swiped" to gray and we watched first one then the other leave.  Both apparently flew to the Babysitting Tree - they were sitting in branches that are much lower than we are used to seeing.  The cam operator said that Mom was on the lower left and Dad on the upper right (she could see Mom's dark back-of-the-head feathers).

There have been lots of nest visits over the past few days, but no one recalls seeing Dad out in the front of the WA cam like this before this year.

Wednesday, November 13

Sounded like the chuff-chuff eagle was around this morning.  Perhaps this is who flew toward the Babysitting Tree and was chased away around 8:30 AM.
