August 7

Scootch is 90 days old today and looks to be a large eagle.  Perhaps "he" is a "she ...

Scootch went up to the old wide-angle cam support, then at 6:28 PM, s/he flew over to the stump.
Can her maiden flight be far behind?

Thanks to Paintnut for this short video.

for those wondering about Scootch this morning ... Wren reported last night around 9:45 that she had phoned Gregg who said that he saw Scootch on the branch, saw her miss-step, hit the branch below, and then fly off toward the ocean, accompanied by two other birds, probably Mom and Dad.

Maybe they're having breakfast on the beach this morning?  :nod2

We spent all day Saturday looking for Scootch (booni and wren on the ground, the rest via the cam) and did not spot her.  It seemed that Mom Hornby might know where to look so we have also tried following Mom.  She spent time on the nest apparently waiting to see if Scootch would respond to food that she displayed in her beak and then appeared to eat; on a tree on the far edge of her territory (Mishi's Tree); and then in late evening she was low down in Constable's Tree.

We will keep looking on Sunday.

Come home, Scootch.

booni and wren were both out early Sunday morning (~ 5:30) and searched extensively but neither saw or heard a sign of Scootch.

booni did an exhaustive search on Sunday afternoon - up and down the tree line along the beach from His&Hers tree to Big Rock and back.  Then she searched along the adjacent road. She did not see any sign of Scootch.

On the cam, we have not heard any sounds from Scootch all day.  Mom has been on the babysitting tree since 2 PM (it is now 7:30). She has not called as often as she did yesterday.  We have not seen Dad all afternoon.

Monday, August 11

SCOOTCH IS HOME, SAFE AND SOUND!!

Around 7:40 this morning, someone landed on the cam tree (Gregg's Tree).  A few minutes later, screetching was heard as Mom flew to the nest tree stump with food in her beak.  She displayed the food, hoping to lure Scootch to the nest, but in the end went to the branch in Gregg's Tree to which Scootch had fledged on Friday.

booni rushed over to the location and found Scootch in the very tip-top of Gregg's Tree!

Scootch later flew to the Babysitting Tree, then to the WA support, and as I write, Scootch is down in the nest eating a fish.

Nice news to come home to. What a good Mom Ms Hornby is. Scootch the little rascal having everyone worry. The first of many adventures for Scootch.

Thank-you so very much Booni for going over & above to locate Scootch, putting your life on hold.  :flower
Thank-you to Wren, all the local Hornbyites and the cam crew.
