I think the bird we were hearing around 9:15am today was a Hermit thrush.  The song started with a clear note followed by beautiful lilting notes.

I also think passerine was right, that there were finch songs there too.

I don't think it is a H. thrush.
It's song beings with staccato notes (up to six depending on the song) of the same pitch, followed by a quick swoop up to a note that is about 1/2 octave higher. DeeDeeDeeDeeDeeDee DEE.

I had a lot of static but AJ mentioned it could be heard with chickadees & nuthatches. The Brown creeper hangs out with those birds.

Big discussion this evening on Chat about a curling poopshot.  The segment was right after Mom gave three calls while brooding on the nest.

Two screeps heard, Mum replies with three cries
Broadcast:  09:22 - 12 April 2010 @ 00:04:58

I am pretty sure it was a vehicle going down the road where we first see it on the bottom left, travelling towards the center of the screen.  If you watch the video, the "vehicle" travels along the direction of the road until no longer seen between the branches and sticks.  It can still be seen at center-screen.  It does not fall like a poopshot would.

White blob appears, lower left:

Travels in direction of road below:

Just a trail left here:

Could it be Raptorman leaving a trail of dust with his motorbike down there?

Blue and I working away together. With help of several features.  To me it looks like a flat bed truck heading toward Doug and Sheila's house or beyond.  I think I heard a 'truck motor' like sound as it approached and passed nest. ?

Same but circled

38 sec. video just on the left hand lower corner of the video; Truck passes through at about 33 sec.

lol  The Hornby chat poop sleuths summary:

The taped recording was the 9:22 A.M. segment. Booni made it because she heard two notes that sounded like screeps, to which Mom replied with three notes.  Foldi noticed movement behind Mom and voila, there it was.

The poop shot occurred at about 5:16 minutes into the tape. It can be seen spiraling up from just left of the end of Mom's tail, from below the nest rim.
The vehicle drove past the nest at about 5:41 minutes into the tape. It certainly was not the 'movement' we were evaluating.

Who screeped and pooped?
At about 9:14 A.M., Dad chased a large dark bird past the nest. Doug went outside to look, but by that time Dad was on the Babysitting tree in full guard position, as Doug put it.
It was unlikely that a third eagle would be allowed to land on the nest tree for a poopshot, just below Mom, given that the eagles were vigilant and aware that there was a large bird in the area.
After reviewing the tape many times and looking at Booni's photos of the branch just below the nest rim, we determined that the screeper and pooper was Dad, guarding the nest from a different vantage point.

Again, look behind the left side of Mom's tail to see the poop shot.

I think you were looking in the wrong spot, Blue and BBE!  It is visible at this point on your video (I have circled it in red).  Start looking from 16 on the slider and you will see it appear and curl upwards.

Wow,  for sure Madrona and AJL have 20 / 20 eyesight

investigate    With my trusty sleuth's magnifier honed in on Blue's video;  I do see a 'white blob on the move' at about 16 sec. mark.

Well done ladies.

And we now have the scoop on the poop!  mhihi

NOTHING goes past this group without full scrutiny.

Great job, as always, by all involved.

Sequel to follow, I'm sure.

Thanks, Madrona.  That was a wild goose chase, not quite literally.

On Chat it was described as being to the left of Mom.  I see the poopshot now and would describe it as being directly behind her tail and below the nest - BEFORE a vehicle went down the road.

What we need now is a Super-Secret Invisible Poop Shoot Protector Screen so that nothing keeps us from being able to see the eggs and chicks with the CU cam.   binoculars

Something like that must be available.  And it will help with Charlotte Dinner's smudges, too.  She's not a very tidy tenant.    nono
