Grounded Hornby Eaglet Rescued by HEART!

boonibarb and winterwren of HEART (Hornby Eagle Advanced Response Team) recently came to the aid of an eaglet from Hornby Island Nest #24.  The nest is in a tree near the road to Tribune Bay across from the Tribune Bay Campground.  Thanks to booni and wren’s efforts, along with the help of concerned Coop employees who kept onlookers away from the confused eaglet, the eaglet is now in the care of MARS!  To read booni’s gripping play-by-play account of the rescue, go to www.ournaturezone.com/index.php?topic=1253.msg135130#msg135130 (http://www.ournaturezone.com/index.php?topic=1253.msg135130#msg135130).  Then make sure you visit the MARS (Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society) topic at www.ournaturezone.com/index.php?topic=248.msg135105#msg135105 (http://www.ournaturezone.com/index.php?topic=248.msg135105#msg135105) to read wren’s summary of the rescue and transfer to MARS; complete with photos!  The MARS topic also has updates about “Big Blue” (the eaglet’s name at MARS).

HEGPS is grateful to HEART and MARS for giving the eaglet a chance to be cared for and to learn to fly and thrive.  MARS does so much for the wildlife of Hornby and Vancouver Island and deserves our thanks.  You can learn about MARS and the patients it rehabilitates, along with ways to support MARS, at its website www.wingtips.org/mars/ (http://www.wingtips.org/mars/).
Job well done to all involved!
